How do I receive money from sales of classes and memberships

Session uses Stripe to process payments securely and for payouts. Money you earn is directly and securely transferred to your bank account via Stripe.

I'm just starting out, which plan should I choose?

If you already have clients for your virtual offerings, the Pro plan is the way the go. Most of our users choose the Pro plan because they make most of their income from recurring membership sales.

If don't have clients yet, the Basic plan is an ideal starting point to build up a base of fans with free virtual classes. When you're ready to make money, you can easily upgrade to the Pro plan to accept payments and offer memberships.

What are transaction fees and when do they apply?

We define a transaction as whenever a customer pays for a product or service through a payment flow on Session. A transaction fee is a service-fee based on a given percentage of each transaction.

Please note that Session's transaction fees do not include the fees that Stripe charges. You are responsible for payment processing fees associated with your Stripe account. Stripe fees vary by country. In the US, standard stripe fees are 2.9% + 0.30 cents per one-time transaction, and 3.4% + 0.30 cents per subscription (recurring payment) transaction as of March 2021.

Why do you charge a transaction fee?

We started Session with the idea that with the right tools, many, many more people can build independently sustainable businesses that support their passions, families, and communities.

By charging a transaction fee, we economically align ourselves to help you grow your business — we only get to succeed when you succeed. The transaction fee also scales to cover variable costs associated with serving your members. These include support, email delivery, and server costs.

While our transaction fee is among the lowest in the industry, it also lets us offer more value at a lower upfront cost than the competition. Entrepreneurs just starting out can now turn their ideas into businesses without upfront capital.

Can I change my plan?

Yes! Change anytime and it will be applied to your next billing cycle. If you're on an annual billing cycle and wish to upgrade plans, please contact us at help[at]viasession[dot]com. Any downgrades on the annual plans will be reflected when your existing plan expires.
